    Taylor Lundquist has been raising the profile of women in street skiing for the last 5 years and shows no signs of slowing down.  In the past year she won “Skier of the Year” at the inaugural NewSchoolers Awards,  she was featured in the all female shred-fest “SKIVAS”, and she will be the first female to compete in the 2021 Edition of XGames Real Ski.  On top of that she is working to raise awareness of the LBGTQ community within action sports after publicly coming out in 2020.

    Birk Irving is a Redbull athlete currently competing on the World Cup Half Pipe circuit. We connected in Calgary, hours before an event, which was preceded by a few days of skiing in the interior of BC.

    He’s earned Silver medals in his last two events including the X-Games and we talk about the dynamics of competition and the intricacies in the various halfpipes on tour.  He also shares a couple funny stories about being mistaken as Mexican athlete as and golfing for tattoos.

    We had such a good time with Sammy Carlson and Yu Sasaki, we kept it going.  This is an extention of PART 1.   In this one we tell some good stories about getting into car accidents on the same day,  keeping wild animals as house pets and going to crazy Japanese festivals.  Sammy shares why he skis on King Pins and tells us about the huge amount of footage that we haven’t seen yet. That then leads into a conversation on the current changes taking place in ski culture and content.

    Sammy Carlson and Yu Sasaki have been skiing and filming together in their adopted home town of Revelstoke for the last couple years.  We all met up at Sammy’s log cabin in the woods to record a mega episode.   This is part 1.   Yu tells us about originally moving to Whistler when he graduated highschool and working in a sushi restaurant because that was one of the only jobs for a non- english speaking Japanese skier to find.   He decided that Canada was where he wanted to stay and got married,  had kids and started a successful food truck business all while competiing on the Freeride World Tour.    Sammy tells us about his terrific new film, “YUP”, how the soundtrack came together, how the two started to ski with each other and lots, lots more.

    With their film, A Part of US, Jacob and Sofia Wester seem to have made the first, true-love story told within a ski film. The two, long term partners wanted to create a more relatable film that showcases real vulnerability and the true emotion that we all experience in the mountains. The two talk about how their long relationship has evolved to them working together on these projects and the importance of communication and understating.

    New Zealand’s Jossi Wells has established himself as one of today’s most versatile freeskiers.  He’s represented his country at the Olympics and has won X Games medals in 3 separate disciplines including big air, halfpipe and slopestyle where he won gold in 2016.  He’s achieved a lot in his career and there are two things he attributes his success to above all else; family and faith.
